Extrication response in Buffalo Grove, 8-12-22

Police officers and firefighters in Buffalo Grove were called to an entrapment incident today (August 12, 2022) at 2:30 PM. The location was 1185 Auburn Lane, situated north of Lake Cook Road near Arlington Heights Road. A man had reported being trapped under his truck, and the address was identified through a cell phone ping. Upon arrival, responding units found a tractor-trailer parked in the northbound curb lane of Arlington Heights Road, adjacent to the given address. The driver had apparently parked there and crawled underneath the vehicle to inspect or attempt a repair. However, due to the slight downward slope of the road, the truck moved slightly while he was underneath it. One of the rear wheels became lodged against his foot, trapping him in place. Firefighters were concerned about the stability of the vehicle during the rescue, so they called for additional support from Long Grove Squad 55 and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 to provide cribbing. They also requested a heavy wrecker to potentially lift the truck off the driver. Shortly after the wrecker arrived from Hillside Towing, firefighters used airbags and the available cribbing to safely free the trapped individual. The two squad units were later canceled, and the tow truck eventually removed the tractor-trailer from the scene. The incident highlights the dangers of working on or near large vehicles, especially on sloped surfaces. Fortunately, the driver was rescued without serious injury, and the situation was handled efficiently by local emergency responders.
