On Monday afternoon, May 30, 2016, Glenview firefighters responded to a serious residential fire at 526 Woodland Drive. The scene was immediately visible with thick black smoke pouring from the structure, prompting an urgent call for assistance. As units arrived on the scene, the alarm was escalated to a Code 4, indicating a working fire that required significant resources. Fire companies from Northfield, Wilmette, Morton Grove, and Skokie also rushed to the location to support the response.
The fire was quickly contained to a bedroom and part of the attic, but the interior of the home suffered extensive smoke damage. Despite the rapid containment, the impact on the residence was considerable, with heavy smoke affecting multiple areas of the house.
Several fire engines were seen on the scene, including an E-ONE e-MAX unit and a Pierce Arrow XT model, both making their way to the location to assist in the operation. Firefighters worked diligently to control the flames and then moved on to repack their hoses and secure the area.
Photos from the incident, captured by local photographer Larry Shapiro, show the fire engines and the affected home. These images provide a visual account of the emergency response and the aftermath of the fire.
