The Downers Grove Fire Department, along with auto and mutual aid units, responded to a 2-alarm fire at a church located at 525 63rd St early this morning on July 29th, 2024. The incident initially came in as an "AFA" (Alarm for Assistance), but police officers reported heavy smoke coming from the building. As the situation escalated, the alarm was upgraded to a structure fire, then to a "box" alarm, and finally to a 2nd alarm. Firefighters from Westmont and Lisle-Woodridge set up their towers, while multiple hand lines were deployed to control the blaze, which was believed to be fueled by gas.
