Shanghai Diesel Engine Co., Ltd., the predecessor of the Shanghai Diesel Engine Factory, was founded in April 1947. It was formerly known as the Wusong Manufacturing Plant of the Chinese Agricultural Machinery Company and had a trial production of a 5-horsepower gasoline engine. In 1964, the 6135 diesel engine was matched with the first domestic T120 bulldozer and passed the whole machine appraisal. In 1969, it succeeded in supporting the first ZL40 loader made in China, laying the foundation for Shangchai’s position as a major power supplier in the domestic construction machinery industry. In 1993, when it was restructured into a joint-stock listed company, the registered capital was 480 million yuan and the total assets were 2.3 billion yuan. At present, Shangchai has become a national super-high-tech enterprise integrating development, design, manufacture and marketing. Its business scope covers diesel engines, fuel systems, diesel generator sets and investment companies.
