"Astronomical Science Equipment Cold Lake Site Monitoring and Pilot Scientific Research" started

[ Instrument Network Instrument Development ] On August 10th, the launching ceremony of Qinghai Province's major science and technology project “Astronomical Science Device Cold Lake Site Monitoring and Pilot Scientific Research” was successfully held in Xining City, Qinghai Province. Member of the project expert committee, project and project leader, and Qinghai Observatory from the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Astronomical Observatory, Zijinshan Observatory, Qinghai Provincial Meteorological Science Research Institute, Qinghai Provincial Geological Environment Monitoring Station, Qinghai University, Qinghai Normal University, Qinghai About 70 people from the National University, the Qinghai Provincial Cold Lake Administrative Committee Meteorological Bureau, the West China Normal University, and the Qinghai Provincial Seismological Bureau participated in the meeting. The meeting was co-chaired by Director Yan Wenrong and the project leader of the project, Yang Lan, and Director Yao Changqing and Deputy Director Mao Ruiqing gave opening speeches for the project kick-off meeting.
In order to ensure the smooth implementation of the project, the project specially invited 13 experts from relevant fields in China to form a project expert committee to guide the project content and implementation plan. The experts attending the kick-off meeting included Zhao Yongheng, Wu Jingwen, Zhang Haiyan, researcher of the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hou Jinliang, researcher of the Shanghai Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, researcher of the Zijinshan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Kong Xu of the University of Science and Technology of China, and Shi Yong of Nanjing University. Professor Wang Haiqin, chief engineer of Qinghai Province Basic Geographic Information Center, has 8 experts. At the kick-off meeting, Professor Yao Changqing, Deputy Director Mao Ruiqing, Director Xu Wei, research team leader Yang Lan and researcher Wu Xuefeng jointly presented the project expert committee appointment letter to the experts.
At the meeting, the project and sub-project leaders introduced the overall situation of the project, organizational structure and implementation plan. The experts focused on the difficulties that may be encountered during the project implementation process, the coordination mechanism in the collaborative research of each topic, and the implementation process. The local government's support for protection was put forward and opinions were put forward. The competent department of the Science and Technology Department of Qinghai Province combined the 20 reforms in the field of science and technology to interpret the management and use of funds for science and technology projects. At the same time, in order to ensure the smooth implementation of the project, the overall objectives of the project were completed on schedule, and the members of the project team and the participating units conducted in-depth discussions on project management, project implementation plan, research progress, etc., and sorted out and cross-confirmed with the overall project team.
This project is aimed at the needs of the medium and long-term Chinese astronomical science equipment layout. Based on the screening of the entire site in Qinghai Province, the project focuses on the astronomical observation conditions around the Lenghu area and the Qaidam Basin in the Yuya City of Haixi Province. Large scientific installation of cold lake site monitoring and pilot scientific research. It is implemented from four aspects: optical site monitoring, radio multi-band site selection and monitoring, astronomical site atmosphere, geo-geological environment monitoring and comprehensive analysis, and time domain astronomical pilot scientific research. Through the comprehensive analysis of the pre-selected site monitoring data, select the excellent sites for radio multi-band observations such as optics, millimeter wave and sub-millimeter wave, give a comprehensive site report for the selected site, and carry out site planning and Research on protection programs.
At the same time, the project focuses on basic research and relies on the special resources of Qinghai Province to carry out major scientific and technological projects. It is hoped that through the development of astronomical site selection, the advantages of natural resources will be brought into play, and large scientific installations will be promoted in Qinghai, and the leading scientific research in time domain astronomy will be carried out to Qinghai. Focusing on universities, Qinghai Normal University and Qinghai University for Nationalities, through the joint training of graduate students and the establishment of joint centers and other research platforms, the discipline construction and talent cultivation in Qinghai Province will be promoted, and the enthusiasm and creativity of all kinds of talents will be stimulated, and the innovation of rational structure and quality will be built. The talent team provides backup force for astronomical research in Qinghai Province. In addition, through regional science and technology cooperation and exchanges, we will further promote the construction of featured science bases, enhance the infrastructure service capabilities of science popularization, and promote popular science services such as popular science venues and science popularization institutions. Through the realization of the above objectives, it will finally lay a solid foundation for the construction of Qinghai Lenghu Town as a world-class astronomical observation base.
