SAIC's acquisition of Shanghai Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. has once again advanced. Shanghai Automotive said recently that the acquisition has been approved by the SASAC and the Ministry of Commerce and will only be implemented with the approval of the China Securities Regulatory Commission. As this acquisition aims to build a new R&D platform for SAIC's core components in commercial vehicles, the outside world is also concerned about the role of this platform in SAIC's entire R&D system.
After the completion of the acquisition, SAIC will obtain the engine of its own brand to meet the overall development needs of the commercial vehicle business, and quickly develop its engine R&D capabilities. At the same time, SAIC Motor’s own brand commercial vehicle business will also be promoted. Once this acquisition is completed, it also means SAIC has a complete R&D platform for core components, including cars and commercial vehicles.
