The reporter learned on November 2, 2011 that BorgWarner recently announced that its third-quarter net sales were $1.792 billion, an increase of 27% from the third quarter of 2010 ($1.411 billion).
Third-quarter net income was $142 million, and diluted earnings per share were $1.15; net income for the same period in 2010 was $107 million, and diluted earnings per share were $0.87. Operating income was $199 million (11.1% of net sales). From the perspective of each business, the net sales of BorgWarner's engine business in the third quarter increased by 23% year-on-year to US$1.258 billion; net sales of powertrain business increased by 36% to US$539 million.
In the first nine months of 2011, BorgWarner’s net sales totaled 5.431 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 30% from the same period in 2010 (4.119 billion U.S. dollars); net income was 428 million U.S. dollars, diluted earnings per share of 3.45 U.S. dollars, the same period in 2010 Revenue was $266 million, and diluted earnings per share were $2.18. BorgWarner expects sales for the full year of 2011 to increase by 26% to 27% over 2010, with diluted earnings per share between $4.35 and $4.45.
