Designed to evaluate fire resistance through a fire hazard test, this Glow Wire Tester complies with international standards such as IEC60695-2-10, IEC60335, and IEC60598. The device simulates an ignition source using an electrically heated wire loop, against which the test sample is pressed with a constant force. A miniature jacket thermocouple measures the temperature of the wire loop in real time.
The sample is mounted on a carriage that applies a consistent 1 N force toward the wire loop via a tensioning cord. Scales are used to measure flame height and penetration depth. Below the wire loop, a pine wood board covered with tissue paper is positioned to assess the risk of fire spreading due to burning or glowing particles falling from the sample. Calibration is performed using silver foil; when it melts, the system should indicate a temperature of 960°C.
Standard Equipment Includes:
- One nickel-chromium wire loop (Φ 4 mm), compliant with IEC60695-2-10 figure 1, with a clamping mechanism and a Φ 0.6 mm thermocouple hole
- One carriage with a specimen holder, capable of moving at 10–25 mm/s
- A fine rope pull mechanism with weights to apply a load of 1 ± 0.2 N
- A 7 mm penetration depth gauge with a maximum pointer and stop
- A flame height measurement scale
- A high-current isolating transformer for heating the wire loop, paired with a variable ratio transformer to adjust the temperature up to 960 ± 15°C
- A type K thermocouple (Chromel-Alumel), Φ 1.0 mm, approx. 500 mm long, with a digital display for temperatures between 0–1050°C
- A testing chamber with a volume of at least 0.5 m³ and a black interior
- One wooden board, 10 mm thick, and 10 sheets of wrapping tissue (12g/m² to 30g/m²)
