Beijing buses will be fully replaced with new eco-cars in 2008

According to reports, Beijing's public transport vehicles will be completely replaced. In 2008, more than 3,000 red and yellow old buses in the city were all replaced by new environmentally-friendly buses; in addition, Beijing will have the world's largest natural gas bus fleet. The first zero-emission fuel cell bus in China will also be put into trial operation.

At present, Tsinghua University, Beijing Tsinghua Industrial Development Research Institute and Beijing Bus General Factory have jointly established the first scientific research base dedicated to R&D of urban buses in the country. The R&D fuel cell city buses included in the national 863 key projects are jointly developed. The trial production has made significant progress. After solving some technical problems arising from actual operations, it is expected that it can be put into trial operation this year.

At present, Beijing has more than 1,800 natural gas buses, each carrying 7 to 12 gas tanks. Among them, newly-developed liquefied natural gas buses use liquid-state storage of natural gas, occupying a small space in the vehicle, lowering the weight of the vehicle, and achieving a longer mileage.
