On April 5th, the new concept of the natural gas work ship (ship type shipyard trading) developed by COSCO Shipyard was awarded the principle of Lloyd's Register of Shipping (Location Contact) and was held at the GasTech (International Natural Gas Technology) Exhibition in 2017. On the concept release and certificate issuance ceremony, Zhao Zhijian, the general manager of the Technology R&D Center, received the product recognition certificate for the natural gas workboat group on behalf of COSCO Shipbuilding Heavy Industry.
     The new concept of the natural gas working ship group is the joint research and development of COSCO maritime heavy industry and Wärtsilä (ship hangar location), applying the design concept of shared modules, through the separation and combination of various parts, the function of natural gas liquefaction, gasification, storage and transportation can be realized. It has the characteristics of flexible transfer and good economic performance, and meets the development requirements for the recovery of associated gas in small offshore gas fields and oil fields. At present, COSCO Shipyard has obtained the patent authorization for the design concept and completed the research and development design work, especially the key technologies such as the hinge and barge articulation, mooring (product library purchase and supply), ship type development and hydrodynamic analysis.
     Zhao Zhijian, general manager of COSCO Maritime Heavy Industry Technology R&D Center, said in an interview at GasTech that “COSCO Shipyard has many years of cooperation experience with Wärtsilä and Lloyd's Register in several offshore and offshore projects. The new concept of the group, focusing on the input-output ratio of investors in a depressed market environment, creates a more economical, safer and more competitive solution for LNG applications. COSCO Shipyard will continue to focus on LNG-related businesses. Close to the market, listen to customer concerns and needs, and increase the research and development of LNG projects."

     Ms. Wei Ying, the head of maritime technical support of Lloyd's Register, expressed her high recognition of this innovative product technology: “LR has completed the hazard identification and safety analysis of this new concept design. It is considered that the concept has solved the coverage. Key technologies such as gas supply systems, the transfer of LNG between ships and mooring schemes for several barges, and the issuance of an Principle of Recognition (AlP) certificate."
