Recently, I had the chance to visit the IAFC Fire Rescue International Trade Show held in Chicago a few weeks back. It was an impressive event, showcasing a wide array of firefighting equipment and vehicles. I managed to snap some photos of these impressive machines as they lined up outside McCormick Place, ready to refuel before heading off to the nearest gas station. As usual at such events, all fuel is drained from the vehicles upon entry for safety reasons, reducing risks associated with fire hazards.
Among the various trucks on display, there were a few standout pieces that caught my attention. One of them was the Freightliner/Medtec MICU from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, which looked incredibly modern and functional. Another highlight was the Pierce Impel quint from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago. This vehicle seemed particularly robust and well-suited for its intended purpose. There was also the Spartan/Super Vac (SVI) HDR from Cherry Valley, which had a sleek design and appeared quite advanced.
One of the most striking images I captured was of the Pierce Velocity PUC tower ladder from South Holland. It stood tall and proud, clearly designed for high-rise firefighting operations. Then there was the custom Sutphen SP112 industrial tower ladder destined for the Exxon Mobil Joliet Refinery. Its massive size and intricate details made it a true spectacle. And finally, there was the Spartan/Crimson rear mount aerial ladder destined for the Chicago Fire Department, a stunning example of cutting-edge firefighting technology.
These images provide a glimpse into the impressive lineup of firefighting vehicles showcased at the event. Each vehicle represents years of innovation and dedication to improving firefighting capabilities. While the interior displays at the convention center offered a good look at these trucks, capturing them outdoors allowed for even clearer and more detailed photographs. It was an unforgettable experience, and I’m glad I could document some of these incredible machines for others to see.
