Grilling Outdoors with the A-Series
The PGS "A" (Aluminum) Series grills are meticulously crafted from durable permanent mold aluminum, commercial-grade stainless steel, brass, and porcelain-on-steel components, offering both superior cooking performance and a sleek appearance. These grills represent over 40 years of experience in producing high-quality outdoor cooking appliances, combining expertise and innovation to create a grill that excels in every aspect.
The A-Series includes two models, the A-30 and A-40, both of which come with a variety of high-quality permanent and portable mounting options as well as accessories. They can be used with either natural gas or liquid propane, providing flexibility for different setups.
Choosing the Right Spot
Designed specifically for outdoor use, the A-Series grills must be placed carefully to ensure safety. Every gas appliance produces carbon monoxide, which should never accumulate in confined spaces.
Do not operate your A-Series gas grill indoors, in a garage, RV, boat, or any enclosed area.
When selecting a location, ensure it is at least 30 inches away from any combustible materials and positioned away from high-traffic areas.
Lighting Your Grill
Before lighting your grill, inspect the hose or gas supply for any signs of excessive wear or cuts. Replace any damaged hoses before operating the grill. Always keep the lid open while lighting to prevent gas buildup, which could lead to dangerous flare-ups.
- Avoid leaning over the grill when lighting the burner.
- Open the lid and inspect the interior for any abnormalities.
- Turn both control knobs to the OFF position before lighting. Any control knob can be used to ignite the grill.
- Turn the gas tank or supply valve on, then turn one knob to MEDIUM and press the red button on the control panel ignitor module. You should hear clicking sounds, and one burner should light within four seconds. Turning the other knob to HIGH will automatically light the second burner.
After lighting, confirm that both burners are functioning correctly and that the flames are appropriately sized. It's a good idea to monitor the grill for about two minutes before stepping away. Early detection of small leaks or minor issues like spider webs blocking the burners can prevent bigger problems later.
Grilling Tips
- When using your PGS outdoor grill for the first time, preheat both burners on HIGH for 10 to 15 minutes. This helps burn off any oils present on the new surfaces. For better results, apply a light coat of vegetable oil to the cooking grids before firing up the grill.
- Post-use burning is unnecessary and not recommended. While it might seem thorough, extensive burning can cause premature wear on your grill components or even result in damage if left unattended. Instead, preheat the grill for 5 to 8 minutes before each use to remove most grease and residues. Once cooled, use a nylon cleaning pad to gently scrub off any stuck-on food particles.
Remember to lightly oil the cooking grid with a spray-on oil or vegetable oil before your next use.
Cleaning the stainless steel cooking grids is straightforward—just use a brass wire brush. Make sure to wash them thoroughly before cooking.
Never place cooking grids, rock grates, or lava rocks in a self-cleaning oven.
Safety First with the A-Series
At AEI, our priority is ensuring a safe and exceptional outdoor grilling experience. Both natural gas (NG) and propane gas (LP) are safe when handled properly. Always follow these guidelines:
- Never use natural gas in a unit designed for liquid propane or vice versa.
- Never connect an unregulated propane gas cylinder or unregulated natural gas to your grill.
Most homes equipped with natural gas have a regulator near the gas meter. If you accidentally leave the grill valves on while opening the tank valve, the excess flow device will activate, cutting off the gas supply. In such cases, turn the grill valves to the OFF position, then close the tank valve. Wait two minutes, reopen the tank valve, and finally turn the grill valves back to the ON position. Always open the tank valve first, followed by the grill controls.
