This morning, Jim Skrabel responded to a box alarm in Troy and captured some compelling images along with this detailed account:
"The fire broke out at Auto-Masters, located at 724 Cottage Street in Shorewood, Illinois. The structure involved was a single-story auto repair shop measuring 25x40 feet, with a two-story house attached to the rear. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with intense flames and thick smoke. They deployed three 2 1/2-inch hoses and one 1 3/4-inch hose to combat the blaze. Thanks to the swift action of the Troy crews, the fire was quickly brought under control."
Attached are several photos taken by Jim Skrabel that offer a closer look at the scene. In the first image, you can see Troy Tower 2259 positioned in front of the burning building. The second photo captures one of Troy’s newly acquired Pierce Arrow XT engines sporting their updated livery in the distance. Another shot shows firefighters inspecting the charred remains of the auto body shop, where several vehicles were undergoing repairs when the fire occurred.
Further images reveal two burnt-out cars still visible inside the service bays. In yet another picture, a firefighter directs a handheld hose into a window at the back of the workshop. Smoke continues to seep out from the farthest bay as efforts intensify. A final photo highlights firefighters using a hose to douse lingering hotspots after the main flames have been extinguished.
The entire operation demonstrated excellent teamwork and efficiency from the Troy Fire Department, successfully limiting damage despite the challenging conditions. These visuals provide an intimate glimpse into the hard work and dedication of emergency responders on the ground.
