Yesterday evening, I received an update from Josh Boyajian about a fire incident that occurred in the area. According to him, the 3rd Battalion was called to the ruins of the 2-11 building where they encountered a fire in one of the buildings on the D side. The address of the location was 693 N Milwaukee. When companies arrived, they found flames on the third floor of the structure. An initial interior attack was attempted, but the firefighters were forced to retreat due to the intensity of the fire, and they eventually switched to a more defensive strategy.
The units involved in the operation included Engine 14, Engine 30, Tower 19, Tower 3, Squad 1, Battalion Chief 3, RIT Team 32, Battalion Chief 1, Battalion 271, Division 5-1-5, and Battalion 2-2-1. It was quite intense as the fire seemed to be spreading rapidly, and the crews had their hands full trying to control it.
Attached are some photos taken by Josh Boyajian himself. You can see various fire trucks and equipment at the scene, including Engine 14, which is clearly visible in one of the images. There’s also a shot of the special operations battalion chief on site, who appeared to be coordinating the response efforts. In another picture, you can spot Squad 1A, looking ready and prepared for action. The images really capture the scale and urgency of the situation.
One particularly striking photo shows an African-American battalion chief directing operations. His presence and focus seem to symbolize the calm amidst chaos that these leaders bring to critical situations. Another image highlights the teamwork between different units, with several fire trucks lined up and ready to assist. The final picture gives a great view of Squad 1A, showcasing how well-equipped and prepared the Chicago Fire Department is when tackling such emergencies.
It’s always impressive to see how quickly and efficiently the firefighters respond to these incidents. Their dedication and bravery never cease to amaze me, especially when dealing with something as dangerous as a large-scale fire like this one. It’s moments like these that remind us just how crucial their work is in keeping our communities safe.
