Not long after their arrival, the fire escalated to a Box Alarm status as firefighters shifted to a more defensive strategy. Within a relatively short period, they managed to bring the flames under control after significant sections of the roof were consumed, leaving noticeable damage to the second floor of one unit within the multi-family building.
An incomplete roster of the fire departments that responded to the scene included Libertyville, Mundelein, Countryside, Lake Bluff, Gurnee, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Round Lake, and Grayslake.
