Lemont FPD is added to the site

I recently visited the Lemont Fire Protection District in MABAS Division 10, where I got the chance to explore their impressive facilities and fleet. Karl Klotz and Larry Shapiro were kind enough to take some great photos of the entire setup, including all four fire stations and their vehicles. The Lemont Fire Protection District operates a modern fleet that includes two Crimson engines, a Ferrara rescue engine, and a Pierce quint. Each station is equipped with a Type I style ambulance, featuring a variety of chassis such as Ford, Navistar, and Freightliner, with medical boxes provided by Medtec and McCoy Miller. Station 1, which serves as their headquarters, is a busy hub with additional resources like an air trailer and the MABAS Division 10 Water Rescue and Recovery trailer. This station plays a crucial role in managing emergency responses across the division. Station 4, another key location, is equally well-equipped and prepared for any situation. During my visit, I was particularly impressed by the specialized equipment they have, including the MABAS Division Water Rescue Unit, which is ready to handle aquatic emergencies. One of the highlights of my visit was learning about their historical fleet. For instance, Lemont once operated a 1982 American LaFrance Century Series engine with a massive 500-gallon water tank and a powerful 1,500-GPM pump. They also had a 1983 American LaFrance Century Series 75-foot Water Chief Quint, which combined firefighting capabilities with aerial ladder functions. These classic vehicles are not just relics but continue to play a vital role in maintaining the district's readiness. Overall, the Lemont Fire Protection District is a prime example of modern firefighting practices combined with a respect for tradition. Their commitment to community safety and efficient response is evident in every aspect of their operations. I am grateful for the opportunity to witness this firsthand and share these insights with others.
