Lemont FPD is added to the site

I just got back from visiting the Lemont Fire Protection District in MABAS Division 10, where I spent some time checking out their impressive fleet and facilities. Karl Klotz and Larry Shapiro have been doing a great job documenting everything, capturing both the vehicles and the stations. It's fascinating to see how they operate and maintain their equipment. The headquarters at Station 1 is home to some really interesting pieces of apparatus. They run two Crimson engines that look sharp and ready for action. Alongside those, there’s a Ferrara rescue engine and a Pierce quint that adds versatility to their operations. What caught my attention was the air trailer and the MABAS Division 10 Water Rescue and Recovery trailer, which really highlights their commitment to water rescue missions. Station 4 is another key location, and it’s where you’ll find one of their Type I style ambulances. It’s mounted on a Ford chassis with a Medtec box, giving it a solid build. The other stations also feature similar setups but with different chassis options like the Navistar and Freightliner, all equipped with top-notch boxes by McCoy Miller. These ambulances are clearly designed with both efficiency and patient care in mind. One of the standout vehicles from the past is their 1982 American LaFrance Century Series engine. This rig carries 500 gallons of water and boasts a powerful 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump, making it a beast on the fire scene. Then there’s the 1983 American LaFrance Century Series 75’ Water Chief Quint (1500/500), which combines firefighting prowess with ladder capabilities. Both these classic rigs show the rich history behind the Lemont Fire Protection District. The MABAS Division Water Rescue Unit is something else entirely. It’s a specialized piece of equipment designed specifically for water rescue scenarios, and it’s clear they take their responsibilities seriously. Every aspect of their operation seems well thought out, from the vehicles themselves to the tools they carry. Overall, spending time at the Lemont Fire Protection District left me with a deep respect for their dedication and professionalism. Their fleet and infrastructure reflect years of experience and strategic planning. If you ever get the chance to visit or learn more about them, I highly recommend it—it’s an inspiring glimpse into modern firefighting at its finest.
