Laser technology has developed a new sensor: Detection of individual bacteria

Recently, Russian scientists used laser technology to create a new optical biosensor. Compared with traditional sensors, its sensitivity has been greatly enhanced, can be used to detect bacteria and viruses, especially suitable for use in high-traffic scenarios, such as the airport. Thanks to the grating-like structure of a silver film, infrared light is regularly distributed over its surface as it passes through the sensor. As the light intensity becomes higher, the microwell will turn into a hot spot. The microorganisms contained in the biological material effectively fill the pores and adsorb the hot spots, thereby increasing the probability of detection. The researchers said: "With this technology, optical biosensors can be used to detect individual bacteria, which can be very helpful in disease prevention and rapid diagnosis."
