In 2007, China's petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical industries made great strides in key scientific and technological research, the introduction of technological digestion and absorption, the promotion and application of scientific and technological achievements, and the use of advanced technologies to transform and upgrade traditional industries. According to the introduction of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, in 2007, a total of 191 science and technology awards were selected. The 8 results recommended by the association passed the National Science and Technology Awards review, and two of the results passed the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
A number of major chemical technology and equipment development projects have achieved major results and improved the level of industry equipment. Delta Group Co., Ltd. has successfully developed and produced giant engineering tires with a diameter of 3600 mm and a section width of 1400 mm using independent innovation technology, and passed the 2007 National Science and Technology Progress Award. In addition, China has successively built large-scale domestically produced complete sets of chemical equipment and key equipment with 100,000 tons of dimethyl ether and 300,000 tons of low-pressure methanol. The successful development of these major equipment has improved the overall technical level of the industry and promoted the optimization and upgrading of the industry.
