A vacuum truck is a tank truck equipped with a heavy-duty vacuum system designed to pneumatically load solids, liquids, sludge, or slurry through suction lines typically 2-4 inches in diameter, with 3 inches being the standard. The typical pump used in this industry is the rotary vane vacuum pump. These trucks can be configured with either a direct PTO/belt or PTO/hydraulic drive system. There are two main ways to mount the pump: directly on the truck using a PTO drive or on the trailer with a pony motor. Each application has unique handling characteristics.
These trucks are often used by towns and municipalities for street cleaning, sewer maintenance, individual septic systems, and for cleaning contaminated soil. They are also used in the cleaning of sanitary sewer lift stations and in the pumping out of grease interceptors required at many restaurants. It includes a cylindrical tank, a hydraulically operated full-diameter tailgate, and a vacuum system powered by a PTO mounted on the vehicle's gearbox. All functions and load distribution are arranged according to the technical specifications of the chassis on which it is mounted. The equipment is manufactured following serial production principles while considering legal regulations.
