A vacuum truck is a tank truck equipped with a heavy-duty vacuum system designed to pneumatically load solids, liquids, sludge, or slurry through suction lines typically 2-4 inches in diameter, with 3 inches being the standard. The typical pump used in this industry is the rotary vane vacuum pump. These trucks can be configured with either a direct PTO/belt or PTO/hydraulic drive system. There are two main ways to mount the pump: directly on the truck using a PTO drive or on the trailer with a pony motor. Each application has unique handling characteristics.
These trucks are often used by towns and municipalities for street cleaning, sewer maintenance, individual septic systems, and for cleaning contaminated soil. They are also used in the cleaning of sanitary sewer lift stations and in the pumping out of grease interceptors required at many restaurants. In the petroleum industry, they are used for cleaning storage tanks and spills. Additionally, they play a crucial role in drilling oil and natural gas wells, as they are stationed at the drilling site. Vacuum trucks are used to remove drilling mud, cuttings, cement, spills, and brine water from production tanks. This material is disposed of in sump pits, treatment plants, or if within safe levels, it may be spread in a farmer's field.
The equipment is designed to collect and transport sewage and sludge through suction. A cesspit emptier consists of a subframe connected to the vehicle chassis. It includes a cylindrical tank, a hydraulically operated full-diameter tailgate, and a vacuum system powered by a PTO mounted on the vehicle's gearbox. All functions and load distribution are arranged according to the technical specifications of the chassis on which it is mounted. The equipment is manufactured following serial production principles while considering legal regulations.
