With the successful development of the EBZ-160 boring machine by Shenneng Group, Liaoning Province has finally broken its long-standing gap in domestic mining machinery manufacturing. Recently, a product promotion meeting for the EBZ-160 was held in Shenyang, marking a significant milestone for Shenzhou Mining Group — one of China’s eight major heavy machinery enterprises — as it officially enters the field of large-scale underground mining equipment. This move positions the company as a new player in the drive toward localizing advanced coal mining technology.
Developed jointly by Shenkuang Group and the Liaoning University of Engineering Technology, the EBZ-160 is designed with a compact structure, ease of operation, and high mobility. It can cut through various shapes and is built using mature domestic technologies while incorporating several key innovations. The retractable cutting structure allows for greater propulsion when the track is stationary, eliminating the need for repeated track setups. Its conical cutting head enhances drilling efficiency and swing cutting performance. The electronic control system uses a programmable logic controller, offering real-time monitoring, fault diagnosis, and display. Additionally, the machine features a high-pressure water jet system to suppress dust during operations and includes an adjustable hydraulic interface for anchor rod installation, enabling compatibility with hydraulic bolt drilling rigs.
During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, China aimed to establish 13 super coal bases through restructuring and new construction, targeting a total coal output of over 3 billion tons by 2010. However, the current supply of excavation machinery, both in quantity and technical capability, remains insufficient to meet growing demand. The push for modernization and localization of coal mining equipment has never been more urgent.
