Wuhan bus passenger self-developed equipment engine protection device won the national patent

Half a Meal A small box can protect an engine worth over 70,000 yuan. On the 5th, 20 air-conditioned buses from three local bus companies were equipped with an "automatic engine shutdown safety protection device" developed in-house. Drivers no longer need to worry about overheating or engine failure due to low coolant or oil. On Wuhan Bus No. 712, the reporter observed the device installed next to the dashboard. The system monitors both the coolant and fuel levels. When either is low, red and green lights flash, and the engine automatically shuts off. This allows the driver to safely turn off the vehicle, restart it later, and pull over to the side of the road. It’s reported that all air-conditioned city buses in Wuhan use rear-mounted diesel engines. During winter and summer, when air conditioning is frequently used, the engine faces heavy loads. Drivers often can't detect coolant leaks or oil shortages in time, which leads to frequent engine repairs and even sudden breakdowns on the road. In 2003, engineer Wan Zhiming from the bus company created this engine protection device based on driver feedback. After thousands of tests, he successfully developed a cost-effective solution priced at around 500 yuan. On the 4th, the device was granted a national patent. The bus group announced that after a successful trial, the device will be gradually installed on all air-conditioned vehicles in the company. This innovation not only improves safety but also reduces maintenance costs and extends the lifespan of the engines.
