Since this year, Wuhan Tianma Industrial Co., Ltd. and Jiangrun Chemical Co., Ltd., among others, have established their operations in the Yingcheng Changjiangjing Chemical Technology Industrial Park. At this point, more than 20 chemical companies have relocated from Wuhan to the Yangtze River area. In this town, just 60 kilometers away from Wuhan, a vibrant start-up fine chemical industry cluster is rapidly emerging.
The Yangtze River region is rich in resources, particularly due to the Yunying Salt Mine, which supplies essential chemical raw materials. Nearby, large-scale chemical firms like Hubei Shuanghuan and salt plants create an ideal environment for further industrial development. With Wuhan nearby, many chemical companies are looking to move out of the city as part of the "retreat into two or three industries" policy, seeking better space and conditions for growth.
The idle facilities of over 20 former township enterprises in the Yangtze River area have become valuable assets for attracting Wuhan-based chemical firms. In 1998, the Wuhan Chemical Research Institute set up an advanced factory here. At that time, the company was leading in electrolytic fluorine production nationally, but its location in downtown Wuhan restricted expansion. The Yangtze River offered ready-made factories, lower electricity costs, and proximity to raw materials. After relocating, the factory’s production capacity increased tenfold. Following this success, companies such as Wuhan Three-dimensional, Lifa, Hanxing, Zhicheng, Jihechang, and Defu also chose to settle in the area.
In recent years, the Yangtze River Chemical Industry Park has grown rapidly. Today, it hosts over 40 chemical companies, specializing in five major categories: silicones, fluorine chemicals, electroplating intermediates, pharmaceutical intermediates, and phenolic resins. These companies produce more than 200 product series, generating annual sales of over 700 million yuan. Four products—electrolytic organofluorine, silane coupling agents, electroplating additives, and ribavirin pharmaceutical intermediates—rank first in national sales. In 2004, the park was recognized as the “National Torch Plan Chemical New Material Industrial Base.â€
Looking ahead, the new district of the Yangtze River Chemical Industry Park will expand toward the northeast, adjacent to the Dongmafang Salt Chemical Industry Group. Over the next five years, with the arrival of numerous organic chemical companies from Wuhan, the area is expected to develop into a large-scale "New Chemical City."
