A group of three 500 kV and 50,000 MVA single-phase AC controllable reactors, independently developed by Xi'an Xidian Transformer Co., Ltd., has completed the design phase and is set to enter mass production. The technical performance of this product has reached international advanced standards, and it has received preliminary approval for an invention patent application from the State Intellectual Property Office.
With the rapid development of ultra-high voltage (UHV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) power grid construction, long transmission lines require high-voltage reactors to limit power frequency and operational overvoltage. However, traditional shunt reactors are not adjustable. When the transmission power approaches the natural power level or exceeds it, system voltage tends to drop, affecting grid stability, power quality, and limiting the line's transmission capacity.
The graded controllable shunt reactor developed by Xi'an Xidian offers significant advantages, including easy adjustment, fast response time, no harmonic generation, low noise, minimal vibration, and reduced losses. It is ideally suited for long-distance transmission in UHV and EHV power grids, offering superior performance and promising market potential.
According to reports, this cutting-edge product has already been ordered by the State Grid Corporation for the 500 kV switch station in Yinzhou, Shanxi. The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of May 2006. This marks a major milestone in China's efforts to enhance grid efficiency and reliability through advanced power equipment.
