Method of cleaning engine idle valve and crankshaft exhaust pipe

Beverly EFI engine oil vapor from the crankcase exhaust pipe is directed into the air filter and then into the intake chamber, where it gets burned during the combustion process. This helps reduce direct oil vapor emissions into the atmosphere, which can be harmful to the environment. However, when oil vapor enters the intake system, it cools down and condenses, leading to contamination of various components such as the intake pressure sensor, fuel pressure regulator, idle valve, and vacuum tubes. These issues are common in FK EFI engines. Some taxi drivers burn engine oil and release it directly into the air, which is not only environmentally irresponsible but also damages the engine's crankcase ventilation system. When oil enters the intake pressure sensor, the ECU cannot accurately measure the intake pressure, leading to incorrect control signals and poor engine performance. Common symptoms include stalling, low or unstable idling, and difficulty starting. Replacing an imported pressure sensor can cost around 400 yuan, making regular maintenance a more cost-effective option. A dirty idle valve can cause unstable idling and engine shutdowns. A clogged fuel pressure regulator may result in high fuel injection pressure, causing a rich fuel mixture, poor acceleration, and high idle instability. Cleaning the idle valve, vacuum tubes, throttle body, and crankcase exhaust pipe can help prevent these issues. Cleaning the idle valve is a simple DIY task that should be done every three months. Start by turning off the engine and letting it cool. Remove the idle valve’s wiring harness carefully, loosen the screws, and clean the valve with carburetor cleaner. Use a plastic swab to remove stubborn deposits, and make sure the valve moves freely after cleaning. Reinstall it and test the engine. Next, clean the vacuum tube connected to the intake pressure sensor. Use a long wire with a cloth to wipe the inside of the tube, and blow out any remaining debris with compressed air. Clean the pressure sensor with a tissue and a small plastic tool. Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free. For the throttle body, remove the air filter cover and spray carburetor cleaner around the throttle plate. Wipe it carefully with a paper towel and check if the throttle moves smoothly. Avoid spraying near the rubber seal to prevent damage. For a complete clean, the throttle body must be removed, which is best left to professionals due to the need for reinitializing the accelerator pedal position. Finally, clean the crankcase exhaust pipe and filter monthly. This prevents oil buildup that can contaminate other parts of the intake system. Turn off the engine, let it cool, and use carburetor cleaner to rinse the filter and clean the plastic connectors. Make sure everything is properly reconnected to avoid leaks. By performing these regular maintenance tasks, you can keep your engine running smoothly, save money on repairs, and extend the life of your vehicle. It’s a practical and rewarding DIY project that anyone can try.
