MAN Diesel & Turbo celebrates the sale of the 60,000th turbocharger

At the China International Maritime Exhibition 2015 held in Shanghai, MAN Diesel & Turbo announced the establishment of its turbocharger business by demonstrating its products to the turbocharger customer, China Merchants Energy Transportation Co., Ltd. (CMES). 60,000 turbochargers have been sold in 80 years. This milestone transaction involves the delivery of two TCA66-21 turbochargers to customers in the future for the MAN B&W 7G80ME-C9 two-stroke engine offered by MAN Diesel & Turbo for very large tankers.

The ceremony was held at the booth of MAN Diesel & Turbo, and the CEO, Uwe Lauber, presented a gift of gratitude to the CMES representative.

CME Chairman Xie Chunlin accepted the commemorative certificate and turbocharger turbine blade model. Also present at the ceremony were representatives of the turbocharger business partner of Man Diesel & Turbo in China, Hong Kong Haitong Co., Ltd. and representatives of Shanghai CSSC Mitsui Shipbuilding Diesel Co., Ltd.
Earlier this year, Haihong Steamship (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. (AMCL), a subsidiary of China Merchants Energy Transportation Co., Ltd., also signed an advanced maintenance contract with MAN Diesel & Turbo for 36 MAN turbochargers. It will take effect in early 2016.
At the China International Maritime Exhibition, Dirk Balthasar, head of global turbocharger sales and promotion at MAN Diesel & Turbo, said: "With continuous development, TCA turbochargers have become the most reliable on the market. The tried and tested product line. Since its launch, TCA has undergone several technical improvements and research and development, and the products we currently offer have all the advantages."
Balthasar added: "For example, we have redesigned TCA bearings to extend their overall life. Therefore, we announced last year that there is no need to inspect bearings before the first overhaul. This gives direct benefits to customers. It saves time and money. Now there is no need for any intermediate inspections from dry dock to dry dock."
It is reported that the super-large oil tanker will be delivered by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in 2016. China Merchants Energy Transportation Co., Ltd. decided to purchase engines and turbochargers from the same manufacturer. The MAN B&W 7G80ME-C9.2 mainframe manufactured by Shanghai Zhongchuan Sanjing Shipbuilding Diesel Co., Ltd. (CMD) is partially load optimized with exhaust bypass regulation technology and integrates two MAN TCA66 turbochargers.
The 60,000th turbocharger, serial number 7037348, was assembled at the turbocharger plant at MAN's Changzhou plant, which is responsible for the localization of most turbocharger components in China. The core components, such as bearings and rotors, are manufactured at MAN Diesel & Turbo's German plant.
The MAN TCA series of turbochargers was launched in 2003 and there are currently more than 7,000 market cases available for reference. According to global applications, TCA turbochargers are mainly used in two-stroke applications, as well as several four-stroke applications.
