BPSM-I online particle size analyzer developed successfully

The BPSM-I online particle size analyzer is an advanced, automated device designed to monitor critical parameters in the continuous production processes of mineral processing. It finds wide application across industries such as non-ferrous metals, black metals, cement, chemicals, and gold. This system is part of the 15th key research project approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, specifically under the sub-project titled "Research on Mineral Processing Process Monitoring Technology and Automatic Control System." The BPSM-I consists of eight main components: a slurry steady flow box, an instrument control box, an electronic touch screen, a valve box, an air purification unit, a measuring head, a calibration sampler, and a supporting rack. The core component is a domestically recognized measuring head that incorporates high-tech design, ensuring precision and reliability. The instrument control box houses a PLC programmable controller and various modules, acting as the central command unit. The electronic touch screen facilitates user input, output, and human-machine interaction, making the system highly intuitive. This analyzer addresses several key technological challenges. It ensures the development of a high-precision and stable measuring probe structure, solves the difficulties in processing dynamic and static contact measurements, and guarantees accurate selection and procurement of displacement sensors with high sensitivity. It also includes advanced software algorithms for processing displacement signals and reliable sampling devices to ensure representative sample collection. As a direct measurement-type slurry particle size analyzer, the BPSM-I offers significant advantages. Its zero-correction technology automatically compensates for drift and wear effects, while the system remains unaffected by changes in slurry viscosity, temperature, or concentration. It does not interfere with bubble or flake minerals, and no degassing, demagnetization, or dilution is required. This eliminates external factors that could otherwise introduce errors, achieving absolute accuracy with a precision of 1–2%. The particle size range spans from 600μm to 31μm (equivalent to 30–500 mesh), and users can choose to calibrate two different particles for display and output purposes. The BPSM-I has reached international standards in performance and reliability. According to partial statistics from the Yongping Copper Mine, the system improved grinding efficiency by 6%, resulting in an annual economic benefit of over 8 million yuan after cost deductions. Currently, it has signed a contract with the Baotou Iron and Steel Group Concentrator to replace the imported PSI-200 Particle Size Analyzer with domestic measuring heads. The potential for widespread adoption and application of this technology is very promising.
