Tektronix, a leading provider of test and measurement solutions, showcased a wide range of advanced technologies at BroadcastAsia 2006 (BA2006) in Singapore. The event, focused on digital multimedia and broadcasting technology, featured Tektronix’s latest innovations from SD to HD and MPEG, as well as next-generation compression techniques. These advancements are shaping the future of video testing in the broadcast and television industry.
Driven by rapid technological progress, Tektronix has enhanced its IP analytics capabilities and expanded its product portfolio in IP and video technologies. In an ever-evolving market, their communication and video solutions provide customers with cutting-edge IP surveillance and analysis tools. At BA2006, Tektronix demonstrated its latest IP technologies in the company's showroom, highlighting its commitment to innovation and customer support.
Among the highlights were the WFM6100 and WFM7000 series waveform monitors, designed for flexibility, robustness, and reliability. These multi-format waveform monitors allow users to choose configurations that best suit their business needs. The SD-enabled WFM6100 offers high-performance monitoring for composite analog and SD digital systems, while the HD-enabled WFM7000 and WFM7100 support mixed HD/SD/composite video environments. The WFM7100 adds advanced features such as Dolby audio monitoring, SDI signal measurements, and deep digital data analysis, all supported by a high-resolution XGA display.
The WFM6100 and WFM7000 series also introduced the MyMenu feature, enabling users to customize their interface with frequently used functions. This allows for streamlined access tailored to both individual and group user needs. Additionally, the CaptureVuâ„¢ feature enables full-frame video capture, triggered manually or automatically, allowing engineers to analyze intermittent faults or perform remote diagnostics effectively.
Tektronix’s new waveform monitors also offer powerful fault detection, alarm generation, content editing, quality verification, job reporting, and ancillary data monitoring—including closed caption decoding and superior audio monitoring. They are ideal for system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, featuring a patented timing display. The WFM6100 and WFM7100 further enhance performance with eye diagram displays, jitter measurement, and detailed analysis of video and embedded audio signals.
Another key product was the RTX130A MPEG and RF integrated signal generator. This compact, portable device generates unmodulated and RF-modulated MPEG transport streams, supporting QAM and ATSC standards. It serves as a reliable test source for product development, production testing, and field applications like system simulation and equipment commissioning. Its ease of use and portability make it a valuable tool for both consumer and professional markets.
Additionally, the WVR7100 and WVR6100 monitors received new features, including eye diagram display, jitter measurement, and cable length analysis for HD-SDI and SD-SDI signals. They also support ARIB-compliant ancillary data monitoring, helping engineers detect early signs of system degradation and avoid costly downtime. These updates improve efficiency in broadcast and post-production workflows.
