In recent years, the Huaiyin District Land and Resources Bureau in Huai'an City has taken proactive steps to support local economic growth by focusing on land and mineral resource management. Leveraging its geographical advantages, Huaiyin has made significant progress in the scientific development of its natural resources. Recent geological surveys by the National Geological Exploration Department have confirmed that the Huai'an Fault Basin and Hongze Basin contain one of the largest rock salt deposits in East China. With total reserves reaching 130.654 million tons and 27.048 billion tons in the Hongze Basin alone, the area is well-positioned to drive sustainable industrial growth.
As of the first half of 2005, a total of 21.22 square kilometers had been surveyed for mining, with 5.82 square kilometers approved for operation. The salt deposits in the Hongze Basin are characterized by high quality, large reserves, and favorable geological conditions. These features make the area ideal for large-scale salt mining and processing.
Currently, nine blocks within the Hongze Basin have been explored and developed, with key players such as Shanghai Pacific Yuanming Powder Company and Jiangsu Nanfeng Chemical Company contributing significantly to national production. Together, these companies produce around 1.8 million tons of mirabilite annually, accounting for 30% of the country's total output.
Huaiyin Salt Mine has joined the Jiangsu Salt Group Corporation, planning to invest 400 million yuan in a project to produce and export 6 million cubic meters of brine annually. This initiative aims to address the shortage of sea salt in the region and support the growth of the salt chemical industry.
The district is also advancing technological innovation, working closely with research institutes and universities to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. By implementing advanced techniques for salt extraction and wastewater treatment, the bureau ensures sustainable practices while promoting industrial growth.
Looking ahead, the bureau is focused on expanding the scale of salt production and investing in projects such as vacuum salt and alkali production. These efforts aim to build a strong foundation for the long-term development of the salt chemical industry in the region.
With its strategic location, superior transportation infrastructure, and rich natural resources, Huaiyin is well-positioned to become a major hub for the salt chemical industry in Jiangsu Province.
