A massive floating crane, resembling a flying saucer, is currently under construction at Zhenhua Port. Once completed, it will be the largest of its kind in Asia, capable of lifting up to 4,000 tons. According to recent updates from Zhenhua Port Machinery, an 115-meter-long spreader weighing 1,000 tons will be installed on the crane this month, with the entire project expected to be finished by October.
The 4,000-ton floating crane is being called a "Hercules" for maritime engineering. It's designed for multiple tasks, including lifting, bridge construction, pipeline laying, and underwater salvage. Its first mission after completion will be to recover a full Song Dynasty shipwreck off the coast of Guangdong. In the future, it will primarily support offshore oil and gas platforms.
During the design and manufacturing process, Zhenhua Port Machinery implemented several innovative solutions to ensure the crane operates efficiently in harsh marine environments. Engineers increased the number of roller rows from one to four, significantly boosting the crane’s stability and ensuring even weight distribution.
This advanced 4,000-ton floating crane has already drawn global attention and is becoming a new driver of economic growth. Recently, Iran placed an order for a 4,400-ton multi-purpose lifting vessel, paying $166 million for it. Additionally, Zhenhua Port Machinery is already working on a larger version—the 7,000-ton floating crane, with its components now in production. This development marks a major step forward in China’s maritime engineering capabilities and highlights the company’s growing influence in the international market.
