A massive floating crane, resembling a flying saucer, is currently under construction at Zhenhua Port. Once completed, it will be the largest of its kind in Asia, capable of lifting up to 4,000 tons. According to recent reports from Zhenhua Port Machinery, an 115-meter-long spreader weighing 1,000 tons will be installed on the crane this month, with the entire project expected to be finished by October.
The 4,000-ton floating crane is being called a "Hercules" for maritime engineering. It's designed for multiple tasks, including lifting heavy objects, laying pipelines, building bridges, and conducting underwater salvage operations. Its first mission after completion will be to recover a complete Song Dynasty shipwreck off the coast of Guangdong. In the future, the crane will focus on supporting offshore oil and gas platforms.
Zhenhua Port Machinery has incorporated several advanced design features into the crane to ensure it can operate efficiently in challenging marine environments. Engineers increased the number of roller rows from one to four, which significantly improved stability and load distribution. This enhancement ensures that the crane can handle extreme sea conditions without compromising performance.
The 4,000-ton crane, developed independently by Zhenhua Port Machinery, has drawn global attention and is becoming a new driver of economic growth. Recently, Iran placed an order for a 4,400-ton multi-purpose lifting vessel, paying $166 million for the project. Additionally, Zhenhua Port Machinery is already working on an even larger version: a 7,000-ton floating crane. Components for this next-generation machine have already started production, signaling the company’s ambition to lead the global market in large-scale maritime engineering solutions.
